Collective Kitchen
What is a collective kitchen? It is when women together pool their time, money and skills to prepare economical, healthy and appetizing meals. As a result, these women can improve their daily lives and those of their families within an enriching and stimulating group environment.
How does it work? A group of 5 or 6 women is formed. Together they choose dishes for a healthy, economical and appealing meal. They prepare the meal. They chat together and enjoy themselves while working; they experiment with new recipes (vegetarian, ethnic foods, etc.). Everyone voluntarily contributes a small sum. When the cooking is done, a new date is set for the following month and everyone returns home to enjoy the prepared dishes.
Cooking is expensive… and it never ends! Join us and discover the benefits of cooking together! Offering excellent ways to eat well, the collective kitchen allows you to save on food and, at the same time, widen your circle of friends.
Emergency Food Assistance
Through our partnership with Montréal Harvest, we can offer food baskets to more than 240 families per month. Only financially challenged persons can avail themselves of this service. To be eligible, women must first meet with a counsellor, participate in one of our activities or reside in our community. This service is free and available on year-round basis.
This service is possible thanks to the work of our volunteers. Would you like to get involved? We are constantly seeking volunteers, particularly persons who hold a driver’s licence and would accept to drive our pick-up truck to collect the donations. Do not hesitate to contact us: benevolat@centredesfemmesdemtl.org.
Clothing Assistance
Each year, we offer clothes, shoes, blankets and other small household items to more than 1,000 persons. This service is available to women who are in financial difficulty and who participate in our activities.
This service is free and entirely managed by volunteers who sort the clothes and place them in our boutique. Do you have clothes for men, women or children or baby items to give away? You can bring them to the reception desk at the Women Centre.
Christmas Baskets
Sadly, we all know that Christmas can be the cruellest time of the year for financially vulnerable families. Each year, in a warm atmosphere, the Centre seeks to provide 800 to 1,000 Christmas baskets to financially challenged women and their families.
More than 150 volunteers tastefully and cleverly decorate the distribution area and prepare the baskets that are given to the families. Finding enough donors to meet the physical and financial requirements of the campaign is not an easy task but seeing so many happy faces makes it all worthwhile.
We invite you to support our action. Fellowship and sharing provide these mothers and their children with food to prepare for a nice holiday meal and gifts to share, so they can also enjoy the magic of Christmas.
Giving is one of the finest ways to celebrate the Christmas holidays. It is so easy to light up the lives of these families by this simple gesture.
- Would you like to participate in this outstanding chain of solidarity?
We need new and previously owned toys to make thousands of children happy… We also need non-perishable goods to fill the baskets…
- Would you rather make a monetary gift (a tax receipt will be issued)?
- Do you want to contribute your time by helping us?
You are most welcome!!!
