Mother and Child Program

On September 5, 2006, the Women’s Centre of Montreal inaugurated its mother and child early intervention program intended for financially strapped mothers or mothers who recently immigrated to Quebec and their pre-school children.

This pilot project aims to improve the daily lives of the mothers and their children with the goal of a successful integration into the school and socio-economic milieu. Mothers living under difficult circumstances can be followed by a counsellor throughout this self-empowerment process. Over a period of 2 years, these women participate in workshops that promote their autonomy, expand their parental knowledge and enhance their relationship with their children. They also participate in collective kitchens, educational outings and training sessions.

As part of a personalized educational program, children are supervised by two educators who offer them an environment in which to learn, new challenges and discoveries as well games. The mothers, counsellors and educators work together to promote early child development through stimulation activities.
